Coot Kids

I went out this evening to play with my new toy - Canon 1DX, and to try out some of its features and capabilities. This shot of mama Coot and a couple of colorful kids was taken in late evening light at ISO 1600. I have not applied any noise reduction to this image and I am very pleased with the results. While there is a bit of noise in the dark areas of the BG, overall the image is quite clean. I also took some shots at ISO 5000 and was very impressed, very little to no noise if exposed properly. First impressions - very Impressed.

As far as the image is concerned, this is the first time I've seen Coot chicks - who'd have guessed these would turn into a rather pedestrian black and white bird. I would greatly appreciate any comments or critiques on this shot.

Canon 1DX, 300 2.8II, 2.0 TC, 1/1000, f 5.6, ISO 1600
Hand held, Manual Exp., Spot Metered, 50 % of full frame.

Cool image, Randy, though personally I think those chicks would qualify for entry in the ugly baby contest. Excellent detail and exposure and a good job getting catchlights in all three eyes.

Endearing image Randy, great POV and use of the late light.
I especially like the shadows cast across mom by the kids :toast:
Congrats on on the new machine BTW :wavey:

The light looks beautiful...and those colors are really well captured. Nicely done.
