Pied Shag in Flight

Sitting on the side of an estuary just down from the tree the shags were breeding in gave me the perfect spot to practice on the shags as they flew out to feed. This is just one of many shots taken last Sunday at Makara Beach, Wellington, New Zealand.

Great action shot Toya, love the wing position and low flight over the water surface, the light looks pretty harsh , specially on whites.......... That kind of range of colors is very hard to be spot on with exposure! It is the same problem with ospreys, to dark and to bright, I rather take the shot of them in overcast conditions.........Good work!!! :wavey: :toast: :wavey:

Yes I believe it is Rick, but in New Zealand they are called Shags.

Toya,
Nice work on this capture, very good detail in the whites underneath and the dark colors on the wings. The reflection in the water is an added bonus. :toast:

Well captured action shot. It looks like this bird is really moving. I like that reflection, which is always nice and close when the bird is close to the water.

Nice flight shot Toya, I agree it's not the best light, but you handled it very well, thanks for sharing.

Good job on getting this difficult shot, I like the eye contact and wing position, way to go.

I thinks it's a great POV, like the wing position a lot Toya.
