I came across this bizarre looking Dice Moth Larvae while exploring Ongoye Forest in Kwazulu-Natal South Africa. He was perched on a stick that was hanging out over a path in the dense forest.

Any c and c always welcome and appreciated

tech - D3x with 105mm f2.8 macro. SB800 in homemade soft-box to camera right. SB600 behind subject camera left to give rim light and boost the sunlight that was already rimming the caterpillar.

That's just plain weird. I wasn't planning on bringing my macro gear to South Africa, but maybe I should!

Definitely bizarre. What an amazing insect. Nicely seen and captured.

Emil, what unique, fascinating find. It would have been good to see this stretched out for a better view, but the scrunched up pose adds to the strangeness, and your comp and separation from the background is excellent. Thanks for sharing your image of this very unique insect.

Wow, that's one crazy caterpillar! Colors, patterns and shapes are amazing; and the "cobra strike" pose makes it even more interesting. Background is perfect and the diagonal perch completes a very appealing comp.
