Aspen Stand Fractals

I've been lurking around this website and benefitting from all the comments for a few months now. Finally joined.

Being a fan of post-processing to enhance/develop an image, one of the most exciting things for me so far was learning about the variety of software people use, including Topaz and Fractalius - a software I probably wouldn't know about, except for the images and comments posted here.

This image was created with Fractalius. The original is an aspen stand in southern Alberta (seems to be a requisite shot in your portfolio if you're from around here). Post-processing took the original towards the look and feel of a silk-screen print, but Fractalius added a whole new dimension!

Thank you everyone here for the contributions you all make :toast:

Karen, this is a very strong and original first post. I really like it. I had been thinking about trying out Fractalius, and now I feel more tempted than ever, but I also think that this picture has raised the bar. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more of your images.

I've never used this filter myself, but have viewed it many times before.
This subject seems to be perfect for it's application, and has good impact when viewed large..
Nice results Karen! :toast:
Welcome and have a great week :wavey:

Neat abstract. Colors turned out well. I can see this framed and hanging on a wall. Looking forward to more like this.

Thanks everyone!

Roger - if you do jump into Fractalius - it's not expensive, so for pure fun. not a huge risk.

I've experimented with it on various subject matter (flowers, butterflies, trees - even rodeo cowboys and First Nation pow wow dancers in full regalia). This is one of my favorite results.

It has quite a few presets that are all quite different. The only 'issue' I've had with it - your image has to be JPEG for it to become an active choice in the filter menu of photoshop. Have fun playing with it if you take the plunge :wavey:

Very attractive image, Karen - looks like it would do well as a book illustration, with its bold colours and spiky rhythms.
