Yellow Lady's Slipper (+ 2 Reposts)

Yellow Lady's Slipper photographed during the same trip to the Rocky Mountain Foothills as the Western Wood Lily. This flower was in the same protected natural area and it is a wild flower.

Canon 7D, Sigma 150 macro, ISO 400 (should have set that lower), f/7.1, 1/125 sec., flash (with diffuser) in manual mode and tripod. PP in LR4. Crop to 79 %.

Thanks for looking. C & Cs are always welcome. Roger.

Roger: A flower that is definitely on my bucket list; don't have these in Texas. A tiny bit more room on the top would be my only suggestion. Beautiful subject superbly captured and rendered. >=))>

Tough to get a good angle on these orchids; you have done it well.
As mentionned, the tip of the top leaf getting cut off is my only nit too.
Fine image!

Thanks Bill, Sandy and Ellen. Here is the a slightly more relaxed crop (89 %). The upper edge of the capture has extraneous elements (sunlit) and I had conveniently cropped them out, rather than try to clone them out. Thanks for catching this.

The photo was taken on July 7 and this was probably at bit late for that elevation because most of them had already wilted. This one was crammed in the shade between a tree and a shrub. We had done the trip mostly for birds and wildlife, and were ecstatic when we found the flowers. We will be there again next year, a bit earlier.

Wonderful re-post Roger. The light and separation of subject is top shelf work in my opinion.

Good job on a tough flower. Those long petals occupy the frame nicely. The repost is an improvement for the reasons already noted.

Roger:
This is wonderful, to be able to see this in the wild and capture some nicely. I have taken images of this flower many many times but still have not found a comp that I like. You have done well here. The repost is a big improvement but still wish the see the tip of the leaf did not touch the edge.

Thanks all. I'm back experimenting with covering up the sunlit top part. A repost is attached. This is only very slightly cropped. Thanks again for all your comments. To all of you chasing after Yellow Lady's Slippers and other wildflowers, may you find the perfect flowers in the perfect settings.

Beautifully photographed, Roger ! The spread of the flower is set perfectly in the frame - and in perfect light. Very nice to see this wildflower.

Nicely done!! I prefer the first repost. Glad you had the chance to photograph these before they were gone. Great color and detail IMHO. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Roger :wavey: It keeps getting better  The second repost is my favourite. Excellent composition, and use of flash on a difficult flower.
