Red Mountain

by Doug Koepsel

This is from a recent trip to the San Juan Mountains near Silverton, Colorado. While not taken during the golden hour, I found that the mid-morning light brought out the colors of Red Mountain well. I am varying my web-sharpening as I seem to overdo it often, so feedback on this looks would be appreciated also.
A larger image is provided.

Nikon D90, Nikon 70-300 @ 70mm, f/8, ISO 200, CPL.

Very patriotic scene here Doug...love the colors, diagonals and that you haven't blown out the clouds. Nice image all around!

Neat juxtaposition of the red sand and blue sky. Love the puffy clouds :toast:

Looks lke it has a TK color scheme  Nice mix of colors and angled striping of the eroded deposits. I remember seeing a river running red from these deposits, I think. Sharpening looks fine to me on both versions. Mars on earth.

This turned out well for mid-morning light. I saw those mountains for the first time last week - they are quite a site. Good job in capturing this one.

I agree, the mid-morning light looks like it really worked well to highlight the colors Doug.
It's pretty awesome
The contrasting blues of this great sky tops it off very nicely as well:toast: :toast:

Surely one of the best Red Mountain images I've seen. Beautiful patterns and complementary colors!
The larger version is a right treat.

The color is the star of this show. I like your crop here, and the lines, patterns, and contrasts all work extremely well.
Still seems to be touch of noise in the sky, and the large version has sharpening aritfacts along the ridges, but those are such easy fixes. This will need to go on your wall, Doug! :toast:

A graphic and dynamic image with bold in your face colours and zero shadows I like its two dimensional look.

Way to cool, wonderful colors and textures really make this pop. Maybe a slight crop on the top to just add a layer of white clouds but other wise a very nice image, way to go.
