Winter Waxwing

by Howard Cheek

I've been going back through my archives and cleaning up.
Here's a Cedar Waxwing from last winter. No red pens are showing, but I liked the pose and monochromatic color scheme.
F/6.3, 1/400th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext, no flash.
Heavy Overcast around noon.

Interesting pose and a different perspective of the face, giving it an almost human appearance (looks like he has a large bushy mustache and a Don King harido). Love the background.. Well done. :toast:

Real nice head turn, Howard. Great pose and exposure, also. I like the muted browns in the background.

Oh I do wish we had birds like this over here, I really like this shot. Only thing that would make me like it better would be if the eyes were more visible but I know how hard this is with the black band. Very nice shot!

Excellent photo Howard - well done. I love the pose, color pallet and BG - beautifull. I do have to say he looks a bit like a surfer dude with sunglasses to me.

Impressive image Howard. I might be tempted to open up the left eye a touch and bring out a little more detail.

Howard,
Just got around to viewing this one and what a killer image this is. The background is what makes this such a startling image cause it perfectly sets off the plumage of the bird. And....the pose given to the viewer is not something you see everyday. What a terrific pose with the head angled off to the side like that. "I vote for image of the week." :toast: :toast:
