Hidden Gorge

On my way home from the mountains I recognized a road sign to this relatively unknown gorge. A break from the drive was welcome and I gave it a chance and hiked into the narrow valley without any expectations. There was nothing special, a small stream winding unspectacularly through rocks. And then, all of a sudden I was standing in front of this green dreamscape. That's what I love about nature photography, you never know what happens next. Allowedly not the second Columbia River Gorge, but a small paradise on its own and close to my home, which doubles the joy of having discovered it!

Rainer, I enjoy your consistent composition including all the surroundings. Especially the larger version on your website shows delicate details that keep me exploring the whole image.

By pure chance I also visited Stillensteinklamm for the first time about two weeks ago and was impressed by the atmosphere. I have posted an image here on NPN at the end of June.

Wie klein die Welt doch ist! Lustig hier jemand zu treffen, der diese unscheinbare Klamm kennt.

That is exquisite, Rainer. Complex scene, but also still well organized. Excellent color and light.

Saw your larger version on your web site, Just love it, like you said, not the Columbia River Gorge, fooled me for a second though. This is very, very nice. The greens are right on. :toast:

Beautiful scene... To have that close to your home is exciting---enjoy! I followed the trend and looked at the large version on the site. I wouldn't have any suggestions for this at all. Great capture!

The golden stream is a wonderful leading line into a world of green. Lovely picture!

Your narrative brings to mind the question, "How much of the beauty that we photographers capture is driven by state-of-mind and how much is location?"

A dreamscape, indeed. The varied greens and textures in the foilage are a treat, as is the softly flowing stream.

So true, you never really know what's going to happen next, or what you'll find around the corner. This image captures the lush moss and dreamy surrounding very well! Nice job.

A gorgeous forest scene Rainer. It must be great to have discovered this area so close to home. Lots to love in this shot... a storybook photo that toys with the imagination. Excellent comp. Love it.

I'm with you here, Rainer. One of the best things about nature photography is the surprise when you encounter unexpected situations and the excitement that goes along with it.

This is a great find and I love the deep and rich colors everywhere.

A beautiful, peaceful scene for sure. Like others, I would have guessed the Columbia River Gorge.
Congrats on a very nice photo. :toast:

A picture perfect view and composition! The golden stream colors add some great contrast to keep the viewer engaged too.
