The Red October (w/orig photo

Put this in POP photos because there is very little PS... the curves were exagerated, cropped and some canvas added on right.

Taken from a boat in the Thames River during a very disappointing tall ship display leaving New London, CT at the end of Opsail 2012. But there was a small submarine and a tug boat or two. Taken with Canon 7D, using 100-400 IS lens. The lighthouse is New London Ledge Light.

Hope you enjoy your ride on the Red October!

Cool mix of nautical elements. Do subs usually tool around the Thames?

You said very little PS. How about the colors? I am not sure what you did there?

Yes Harley, New London area makes subs and Groton has a sub base. This one was quite small and flew a flag of another country. Don't know whether it was in for repairs or whether it was part of OpSail. As far as the colors go, if you drastically move the curves feature you get very distorted colors. The picture itself was not touched except for cropping and adding a little water in front of the sub.

Way cool. At first I thought it was one of those photos made of a collage of unrelated objects. I guess it was the lighthouse which initially threw off my recognition. A successful image in that it held my attention and made me think. Thanks for submitting this one.

I like it! It's a hodge podge of related subjects and the distorted colors are working for me. You get bonus points for the creativity too.

This is really cool! And unusual. Really like what you did in processing!
