Bee in the pink

by Carolyn Derstine

Coneflowers are blooming nicely right now and they always attract the bees. I like to set up my tripod and just wait for all the action. The background is some pink petunias with a light green groundcover in front of them.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/8 for 1/100 sec. ISO 400. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

Wow, Carolyn, great image. The bee and coneflower are excellent, and the background is just gorgeous. :toast:

I like that the bee has some pollen on it. Nice colors. Just curious, what is your closest focusing distance with the 180? Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous colors on display here, Carolyn. Very nice shot showing the bumblebee and so many of it's various parts. Particularly like the long tongue (not sure if that's the proper term) which quite often doesn't show up well. Very good.

I really like your composition Carolyn, that flower is beautifully formed. Good technique to capture that bee with pollen showing on it's back. Looks as though the light could have been better to allow you to get slightly better depth of field or freeze the bee movement. Excellent colour palette and pleasing background. Graham
