Another Hummer
by Keith Bauer
Hope you won't get too tired of hummingbird shots. I really enjoy photographing these little gems.
I set up for another session this morning in my backyard. Like my last shot, this was done with 3 flashes set up on the hummer, 1 on the background. I did change my lighting scheme from the last shot. Nectar in the Yucca. You can see the pollen on the beak from the Yucca flower.
Techs: Canon 5D Mark III
100-400 @ 350mm
1/125 @ f/14, ISO 320
This is a crop (43% of the original) to emphasize the hummer. I really liked the rendering of the wings in this image.
Larger Version included. It shows much more detail than the smaller version of this image.

There is something a little funky about the frame, best seen in the larger version..

PS - I looked over your image very closely, no nits..well maybe one. You might consider removing that tiny faint sensor spot behind the base of the tail. How's that for nit-picking?
Hi Sandy. The frame is supposed to be a small ragged edge frame, created with Nik Color Efex Pro 4... I should have paid more attention to how well it scaled down for web presentation. Good eyes!
I'm not sure if it is a sensor spot, or just a little tail blur. I had the camera set up to allow just a bit of ambient to the overall flash exposure. I do see what you are referring to. Thanks for the critical looks. I appreciate hearing what people are seeing!
