I know you dont't shoot flowers with a long telephoto, but I saw this flower and couldn't pass it up. I shot it with a nikon D7000 ISO 800 1/160 F5.3 240mm

Dennis: Don't recall you posting here before so welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and thanks for a fine first post. Actually, long lenses work very well for flora subjects. I shoot almost everything with a 200mm macro and sometimes break out my 300mm. BOP are one of my favorite subjects. I like your POV and comp and the DOF is perfect IMO. I like this with the midtones darkened a bit but that's personal taste. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more. >=))>

The only reason I don't use telephoto more myself is because I can't get close enough to some of my smaller subjects! In this case you have a large flower & it works great! I do agree with Bill on having the midtones darkened.

Dennis - Welcome to the Flora Gallery  .

My policy is to use whatever it takes to make a good photo -- so use of telephoto is also great if it can do the job. You already have some good feedback from Bill and I like his processing outcome with darkened mid tones.

Please do share more of your work with us.

Dennis:
I like to welcome you to Flora as well. One of my favorite subject, looks great when x-ray where no lens is required  What lens is used is not important as long as it achieve what you want to do. As for this image, I agree with Bill's suggestions on the processing.

Look forward to seeing more of your flora posts.
