Anhinga
by Steve Balke
This Anhinga was near Venice, Florida in March of this year. The bird is looking towards a very small island where egrets, anhingas and herons all were nesting. The light was very harsh at the time I was there and on the island there were plenty of interfering branches too. So, the shots of the nesting birds, while interesting, are likely not sufficiently good to post here (although I'm still looking at them….wistfully!).
However, I think that this shot on the shore turned out quite well. I particularly liked the detail and the diagonal direction of the comp. It was necessary to add a little more canvas at the top, well away from the bird, to give more headspace in the image.
All comments welcome.
