Tip-to-Tip Catch
by Bill Maile
This Osprey gave me a nice full-spread shot, though kind of high for my 300mm. Cropped down, his prized headless fish in its talons. D90, ISO-400, 1/1250th, f-6.3, 300mm, manual. Larger posted, thank you for looking and any comments.

The head on lighting is really nice on the osprey's head and tail feathers. The tail feathers are down and spread and illustrate very well the aerodynamics of the bird with additional weight and the change in flight path. The fish appears to be missing on both ends. Osprey will catch larger fish and lite on a near-by limb quickly. Then remove none essential parts of the fish to lighten the load before returning the fish to the nest for feeding the young. They will also turn the fish front to rear instead of side to side to reduce the wind resistance in flight, so cool. I am very fond of birds of prey.
I would have done a vertical crop to reduce to sky and get more Osprey but that's just me, great shot.
