Soft Dawn

I finally had a chance to get out and shoot some frames with my new camera after a long period of photographic inactivity with moving house and some ill-health. Having a torn triceps muscle and a bad bronchial infection makes shooting a real challenge!!, but it was an absolute joy to finally get out into nature and experience it's beauty again.

This shot is at Wivenhoe Dam in the Brisbane Valley, about an hours drive from my house. A fabulous location for winter shooting (it's currently winter in Australia) as there is pretty much always a fog in this valley during winter which gives a wonderful atmosphere to the countryside. There's also lots of bird life along the lake, including large fish eagles that are a joy to watch.

D800, 14-24mm lens @14mm, f/11, ISO100. A blend of two shots for focus and DR.

Thanks for looking & your valued comments.

David,

I really, really like this. I think the low perspective is what makes this work. Just makes me feel like I could be walking through this field of tall grass. The quiet atmosphere and color up top just make this more enjoyable to view. Excellent.

David, Fantastic! What a great looking scene. Your composition works so well here and I just love the the feel this has. Wonderful colors and mood! The large version is so nice, and the foreground grass really looks awesome. Feels like I'm right there. Beautiful work!

Stark beauty in this one. The warm tones help balance the those trees. Love the detail in the FG, and how the trees lean in toward each other and into the frame. Glad to hear you are back in the game! :wavey:

Very nice image. The colors, diagonal, and simple elements make it extremely viewable.

The pastel colors and the sculptural quality to the trees along with the mist really make this work. Evokes the idea of simplicity and complexity in the same image to my eye. Nice work.

Picked up the D800 I see (I'm jealous!). Between the pastel and unique comp, this one works well for me David.

Beautiful combination of forms and color. Love how the FG color complements the sky. I might crop just a wee bit off the right side, but that's minor. Lovely.

Torn triceps, ouch!!! Glad you're on the mend David.

Very nice colour in this, I like the diagonal grass line and skeletal trees. Looks like you had some lovely light too.

I bet your wallet isn't feeling to good either, looks like you treated yourself to some new kit.

Cheers, Gary.

Thanks everyone for your comments, much appreciated.
Yeah, the triceps tore an it's insertion point behind the shoulder. It didn't tickle, but I'm getting a steroid injection next week that should help it heal quickly
Re D800... I'd been waiting for the release of this camera since my D80 drowned in October 2011, so it's been a long wait but well worth it.
Cheers :wavey:
