KitFox and Sibling

West Desert Kitfox, Tooele County Utah.

Kitfox pup at its den, sibling in the background. This picture was taken right at dusk, so the ISO was high, and the aperture open resulting in a grainy/soft image. To think if they would have emerged from the den just 20 minutes earlier I would have had golden hour light, eye shine, and some warm tones….. I am definitely returning to this den location this year to see if I can get better shooting conditions.

ISO 1600, 280mm, f5.0, 1/20th, 1.4 x, 1DM4

All wildlife captures need not be in perfect conditions if the moment carries the shot. This moment carrries the shot :toast:

Hi Robbie,

A real nice scene but totally understand your thoughts about what could have been. Still strong and a very nice enviroscape of these little ones. I find the inclusion of the out of focus sibling in the background interesting - for me it "lightens up" the composition - almost adds a subtle "smile factor" (don't ask me why...but when I imagine this one without the background fox it has a more stoic museum "diorama" look to it. Not sure if this makes sense, but just my reaction to the image...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...
