Very eye-catching photo, Toya! I really like this! Intriguing subject with the wonderfully textured orange fungi and the two white contrasting mushrooms poking up from the orange fungi. The green background and black foreground really showcase these fungi very well. Great comp and lighting too. Some minor suggestions: clone out the bright spot in the ULC and darken the light areas in the black foreground a bit, especially the OOF left side.

Wonderful subject and colours.
The bright ULC spot can be easily cloned.

Congrats

What a remarkable image. I don't recall see such colorful and beautiful fungi. I think the two umbrella fungi make the image. I wish there was better focus in the FRC. I also agree about the bright spot in the ULC, but these issues are minor given the other outstanding elements. :toast:

Toya, a very impressive image! Agree with the comment on cloning out the bright spot. I am assuming you used a tripod, did you use any close-up tools such as extension rings or close-up lenses? Thanks for sharing.

A bit more info... The log the fungi was on was up quite high so I was able to get the sun behind it easily. I did use a tripod as the bush was quite dark even though the sun was shining. The orange fungi is very common over here and can be found almost everywhere in the bush during the wet months. They are about the size of a fingernail tho some are slightly larger. You only ever see the detail like this in a photograph. The naked eye just doesn't see it quite the same.

I don't use any close up tools, or extenstion rings etc. I use a zoom lens at its full extension to achieve the macro look.

Than you all for your comments, you are inspiring me to get out in the bush and try for more :)

Stunning! Very effective use of backlighting. It's sure be worth blending in the bright spot in the bg.

What a colorful macro. Love the different tones, all match up pretty well. The composition is very good too. I only wish the bright green spot on the top left corner wasn't there.

Is it all with natural light?

A lovely combination of colors and patterns. Congrats on the weekly pick.

I'm not into cloning out distractions, but the repost is certainly more aesthetically pleasing.

Wow! That is so cool! My quest to find mushrooms this year has been exceptionally hard since Colorado is trapped by wide-spread drought and wildfires :( The colors and POV are really wonderful. I would love to see a slight vignette to set this a part even more!
