Flicker Female+chicks

My last post was the male flicker and male chick.

Here's mom with 2 of the 3 chicks - one male, 2 female. The male chicks have the beginning of the red feathers on the cheek, like the adult males.

Here, Mom had just fed what she brought in. The male, with his beakful of food was coming in right behind her, calling for mom to get out of the way!

Note mom's injured left foot with front toe missing, and back toe adapted to replace the front toe so she can hang on the nest hole to feed the youngsters.

Great capture of the action! I love the way they are all looking toward the male and I love the open mouth pose of the chicks. Excellent detail and nice bg. Interesting adaptation of the toes.

Sandy, nice family image. I think it needs more space on the left for the adult to look into too. Another round of sharpening would help too.

Good spot on the injured toe, Sandy. Amazing she's successfully raising kids. If it were mine, I'd give mom a bit more room on the left to look into. A minor nit on a good shot.
