The sun illuminates thin wispy clouds as it sets over Pocomoonshine Lake in Downeast Maine on a calm windless evening. Photo manipulated to eliminate the red channel--It feels more peaceful to me without the reds. 4 (vert) image pan. Canon 5DII, EF17-40 @ 17mm, 1/4sec f11, ISO 200.

Feels like the Aurora to me without the reds, but with clouds instead of light. Looks pretty unusual but certainly it's up to you as an artist. I like the simple but strong composition here.

It does seem a little out of this world, but I sure like it! I like the reflection and slight detail in the water..

Bill,

Very creative, and I think successful choice, in removing the red channel. I agree with Marc that it gives this a kind of Northern Lights look. I also very much like the wide angle and wide presentation. the curvature of the foreground rocks also give this a slight fish-eye look to it - at least at the bottom.

A little torn about this as being posted in Landscape. I'll leave it here as we try and be a bit easy going.... but when a member actually calls out "photo manipulated to...." kinda makes me think this should be in Photo Art. No biggie, just thought I would put that out there for next time.

And regardless, the image is a great success and I like this very much. Well done.

Lon

Thank you all for your comments! Thanks Lon, I wasn't sure which category to place this, it didn't seem quite "artsy" enough for the Photo Art group--thanks for the leeway!

Cool colors Bill. Thanks for explaining how you made this image. I also thought this was an aurora image before I read your description.

Colors look a bit exaggerated, but I really like the abstract quality to the image.
