Heather:
Welcome to NPN and to Flora gallery!
You have certainly taken advantage of the reflected light on the DF wings here. Bill Fach like to call insects party crasher. I like the few water drops on the petals as well.
Looking at the image, I am not sure whether the main subject is the DF or the bloom. If the DF is the main subject, it would be nicer to see it from the front rather than the back end. If you post the technical data as well, it helps the viewers in their critiques. I am guessing you used a rather large aperture to get this shallow DOF which incidentally adequately covers the whole DF and blurs the bg. The highlight on the petal is a little strong and you maybe be able to tame if you use a circular polarizer.
I find the quickest to improve and enjoy photography is to shoot lots of photo, post them for critiques and just as importantly to critique others work. Look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Heather - Welcome to the Flora Gallery and look forward to your continued participation. Please take some time out to comment on photos posted by others .
You have a pretty comprehensive feedback from Gary. In addition to what he said, I'd also suggest lightening the Peony facing the left edge somewhat - but if Dragonfly is the main subject then the two dark corners work just fine. Cropping about inch and a half from the left also makes for another nice composition for me.

Hi Heather. Welcome to NPN and Flora! I like the party crasher that you have here. He found a nice perch to land on. While I like the photo overall, it seems that there is not one clear subject. That may be what you are going for though... If the dragon fly is the subject, I think that you could crop the photo a tad to get the focus more on him/her.
Thanks for posting, keep them coming!

with the crop your image has improved a lot. Pretty soft pinks and the dragon fly stands out nicely now.
