Another Tennessee image, taken just a few minutes before my last post. I guess the first thing I should mention is---"Oh, do I wish I had a polarizer!" The scene is colorful enough, and the glare off the water not too bad.
This is a single image processed just once in RAW. I know many of you do not like this 'silky' water, but in my opinion, the shorter shutter speed does not look all that great, for this specific scene.

7 commentsSilky water doesn't bother me! Besides, IMHO, the vast majority of the time the choice small shutter speeds, filters and limited light is usually what dictates shutter speeds anyway...
this is a pretty lovely and somewhat intimate scene. And I'm not sure a polarizer would have been an improvement - if anything probably just increased the contrast in the water which may or may not have worked. The comp feels a little right heavy to me, although the left>right flow helps there. I'm thinking about a slight crop from the left, maybe halfway to the first whitewater. Maybe some mid tone contrast in the foliage, but really no other nits to speak of. Nicely seen.

Of course there's a million ways to do things in PhotoShop - assuming that's the tool your using. Just for reference, I made the comment most because of the foliage in the UL quadrant, as well as the water. The area around the trunk trio looks great in terms of color and contrast - so for starters this may not be just a global adjustment. But for a global adjustment, something as quick and easy as a slim s-curve on a curves layer could bump the contrast and at the same time you could pull down the center pointer to drop the overall midtones. You could do the same with a Levels layer and bring in the bright and dark sliders in the RGB channel to bump the contrast.
Drop me a note if you would like me to send an example - with your permission of course.

I especially like the intimate look & feel of it all.
Well done & have a great weekend!
