Place of Flowers

Wildflowers, Girraween NP, Queensland.

The word 'Girraween' is an aboriginal term meaning 'Place of Flowers'. Springtime is the best time to visit when the park reveals it's vast array of wildflowers. I found this particularly prosperous area in a wonderfully secluded area of Bald Rock Creek.

Thanks for having a look and any comments.

Very nice image David. I like the glowing flowers in the foreground and the red soil in the background. Part of me wants to see a bit more of the steam, but it looks like the comps were limited for including both the flowers and the steam.

Thanks Scott. Yeah, the stream is very nice and I tried to incorporate it as best as possible here while keeping the field flowers prominent. The red bg is actually pure granite (wet from rain). In fact, the entire region is known as "The Granite Belt" and it's entire landscape is... you guessed it... granite!

Almost looks like an "Orton" with the flower glow. I guess that is what you get with a slow shutter speed. I must say that I like the effect.

Wow David, this is really lovely! This is a real painterly effect; maybe it's the glow look that others have mentioned. I thought the same thing, although the glow is less pronounced in the lower flowers in the larger version. Regardless, I really like this. Lot's to explore, texture, details, color. The composition works too giving the viewer a glimpse in to the location with the inclusion of the river and rock.
Well done. Perhaps a new favorite of mine from you.

I'd love to wander around that scene right now. Terribly inviting! There's so much to this photo, it may take one a few months staring at it to find all the beautiful details, and explore this shot. Also, I like the glow this has to it---excellent processing. IF I were to find something 'not quite right', it may, IMO, be the dark area (pond?) on the middle left of the image. Thanks for including the large version---very well done.
