Tiger w/ sky background

This tiger came out one late afternoon from a cave after sleeping whole day and walked on this rocky hill, briefly paused and give me opportunity to click him with sky in the back ground.

Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: 200-400 VR - hand held
Exposure: 1/350s @ f6.7; iso 400

Butch, it's such a gorgeous animal. I like the way its face and head are silhouetted against the sky, and how the rest of the body is seemingly emerging from the grass. The foreground log is a bit of a distraction, of course. Cropping it out may improve the image, though you'd have to be careful and make sure things don't get too tight along the bottom in that case (so it may or may not work).

Cool image! I really like the colours. You can sure see how they blend into their surroundings! Very neat that you were able to see this guy! :wavey:

the larger file is worth viewing as I feel the small one needs a touch more sharpening/refining on the face

A very different habitat being shown in this lovely image .I do see a slight halo between the tiger and the sky..Wish this was mine .

The larger photo is fabulous, Butch! It is not often that you get to photograph a tiger against a blue sky!

Wow, this photo needs to be viewed large to be appreciated. Gorgeous animal. I had never viewed the stripes on the side of a tiger like this before, didn't realize they were that intricate and so wonderfully cryptic! Super sharpness on the head where it matters most. Nice job!!! :toast: :toast:

I agree the blue sky is unusual for tiger images and it sets his colors off well. The low perspective gives great drama.
