Rare sight!
by Ajit Huilgol
This is indeed a rare sight - to see a male lion running at full speed with his magnificent mane flowing in the wind. Males are so large and their mane so conspicuous in the short grass plains, that they have no chance on creeping up to within 30-40 metres of their prey and making a charge. They rarely involve themselves in making a kill, unless it happens to be a buffalo, a giraffe, or the very occasional elephant, in which case the male's superior strength and weight are essential for bringing the prey down on its knees. This guy had no chance in hell of running down warthog piglets which is what he was after, but he gave it a go anyway. He didn't make it!
