On Memorial Day I headed to the Lake Michigan shore hoping for lightning over the lake. It was incredibly windy on top of the sand dunes that overlook Lake Michigan and the sand was everywhere including in my eyes. There was no lightning, but I got this and then got out of there as the winds increased and the rain was blowing sideways. There just was not much color, so B&W was the way to go.

Nikon D700, 24-70 mm at 28 mm, 1/400 sec, F13, ISO 250. Converted using Nik Silver Efex2. Cropped the top of the dune off as it did not add anything.

C&C appreciated.

Very nice Tom. The clouds, rays and light across the water look great. I also like the texture and rippled water from your higher shutter speed. Your b/w conversion looks really nice to me. You captured the mood of this storm wonderfully.

It's the light in this image. Really well captured: The light in the darkness, the light hi-liighting the surface of the water. Well, seen with a great comp, exposure, and detail. A winner.

Always love the light-play on bodies of water like this. BW works for me. :toast:

What a neat idea. I like the congruence with the sky, rays, and light on the water.

Excellent image, Tom. Really like how you have distilled this down to an image that is all about light, clouds and sea (or lake I guess). You use of b/w and the tonal range achieved is outstanding.
