Heavenly Flow

My latest image from Yellowstone is of the Gibbon River. I consider the Gibbon one of the most beautiful rivers in Yellowstone and very easy to get to.

This image was double processed in raw. Shooting into the sunset and then processing the images is always a challenge but a learning experience also.

I would appreciate any comment you may have. Thanks

Dean, beautiful soft light and wonderful tranquil mood... processing looks fine to me... I like how the pink clouds in the urc counterbalance the flowing river in the opposite corner... wonder whether the image is ever so slightly tilted to the right, but that may be my mind playing tricks on me...

Really nice image. I'm really admiring the blending, or processing in this. I can totally agree with your statement about shooting into the sun. Very tough, especially if there's foliage crossing from foreground into the strong light. TFS!

Beautiful is right! Love that reflection. I noticed an apparent tilt also--but could be an illusion. I feel like the image is a bit stronger on the rhs, so the balance may be a tiny bit off, but it sure is pretty!

The light in this is beautiful Dean. I love how you were able to keep the river curves into view. The horizon looks fine to me, I think it is just the illusion of the landscape itself. My only nit is thee sharpness. It doesn't appear as sharp as it should especially in the foreground, but at the same time I don't know if it is just web compression. A larger version of this would have been great. Like you, I enjoy shooting into the sun as well...Nice image, and can't wait to find time to get up there again.

The old man that I am I used a bubble level on this shot. The trees on the right are much closer than those on the left so that may be throwing it off. If I get more comments about that I will correct it. Thanks much for the comments!

Beautiful light and color Dean. Nice comp and curving lines. I don't see the tilt others have seen.

A wonderful composition with some spectacular light. Shows the vast emptiness of the Yellowstone plains quite well.
I like this a lot, and I don't see any tilt either.
I hope that your Yellowstone Photo Guide is a big success!

Gorgeous! I was in Yellowstone 3 weeks ago and it was still pretty brown, looks like things have greened up nicely.

This is just beautiful. I like everything about it. Reminds me very much of some rivers in Colorado.

Quintessential Yellowstone. The S curve is beautiful and reflected colors are lovely. Is that snow in the background or just more water? (Too small to tell at this size.) Whatever the lightest parts of the background are they look like they could be a little cyan heavy. Awesome work Dean.

Really nice comp and the colors all work really well together. If i had to mention one thing it would be that the right hand side seems like its a little too dark in the corners, it seems thats an side effect of shooting into the sun.

Michael, This was taken close to Norris Geyser Basin. All the soil in this area is bleached white because of all the minerals. The white soil picked up quite a bit of blue from the sky.

Todd, I think the right side just fell under more shadow. I'll take a closer look.

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

Beautiful shot, Dean, the 'S' curve really helps to draw the eye into the sunset. Processing looks great too! :toast:
