Poppy

This is a variety of Poppy that grows big and has just 4 petals which when fully open resemble a fan/umbrella.

This was actually backlit but does not come across strongly so due to the fact that I used a weak flash burst to light the dark center.

ND300s, AFD200mm F/4 Micronikkor, F/16, 1/40 Sec, ISO400 and Tripod. Flash @ -3EV.

Thanks a lot for your comments on Party Crashers and do let me know if you like this one or not.

Fabulous, Ram. Radiant and incredibly colorful. The flash worked perfectly to bring up the dark center, but the petals are still gorgeous. I like the off center comp, although I imagine that a centered comp would have worked as well (and I sure you have those as well). This comp makes this look like the flag of an asian island republic. :toast:

Amazing detail and color. (I just ordered this lens.)

The sheen on the petals is a tad distracting to my eye.....I would assume it was from the flash...however the benefit gained outweighs that minor nit. I've never used one and am wondering if you used an on-, or off-, camera flash.

Very nice colors and detail. I like the off center composition with the lines in the petals drawing the eye to the interior.

Great detail Ram. I love the bold colors, and the flash was expertly handled. Works well for me!

Wow, does that dark center pop off the background of orange! The backlighting really helps saturate the orange coloring and helps the center stand out so well. There is so much that is wonderful about this image--comp, colors, details, lighting. it has it all. The slight sheen doesn't bother me; it adds some depth IMO. Stunning, Ram!

Thanks everyone. Most Oriental Poppies (other than Icelandic, I think) have that shiny surface extending some distance from the center. I used reflector and got the same shine as from flash. Actually I burned the shine a little bit in Photoshop. Its a necessary evil in the case of backlit Poppies unfortunately and is a compromise.

And I used the built in flash.
