Saw some epic light and atmospheric conditions tonight. We had a couple hail storms move through earlier and the clouds started breaking over Lake Superior around 1.5 hours before sunset.
I Ran around like an idiot and had a tough time getting a good composition. This is the best from the evening.

The reflected light on the wet stone is wonderful. Beautiful colors.

Excellent, Shawn. That reflection on the rock with the midair spray makes for a very strong focal point

Beautiful scene. When I first saw this I was wondering if it was Lake Superior, it just had that "look" about it. I like the water action, the reflected color on the rocks, and the cloud shape/color. There appears to be a man made object right above the highest wave in the center - I might clone that out.

Running around like an idiot usually means that these some serious good light happening and you've captured it beautifully.
Very well done Shawn.

Great timing on the waves crashing against the rocks. Love that light reflecting those interesting flat-topped rocks. Incredible drama.

Nice wave action. Good blend too. Fairly realistic.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

@Nicolaus, this isn't a blend, it's a single exposure captured with a Grad ND.
Thanks for jumping to conclusions though

If you are referring to the horizon area, that is fog.

You can see the fogginess better, here in a shot I took before heading home.

Awesome work....Looks like the waves may have got to you by the look of the rocks being wet. Were you dodging waves?

I love this image Shawn. The colorful waves crashing against the rocks looks great plus the reflection on the surface of the rock. The only thing I would do and a small thing is darkening the trees on the upper right or just boosting the contrast a bit.

Thanks guys!

@Tom Kualii - I actually was soaked head to toe. My car seat was still damp the next day too.
To get this vantage point, I had to walk out into the water and stand on a big rock. With my back turned to the lake, the waves were breaking on the rock I was standing on and splashing me pretty good. I was cursing at my grad filters that were getting water droplets on them and fogging up.

Great shot all together! :toast:

If it were mine, the only thing I would consider adjusting is the extreme left fall off of light, a little.

Thanks Mark
The thought crossed my mind on brightening up the left portion. I'll print it, and see how it looks, but may end up doing just that.

Must have missed this the first time around - this is crazy Shawn. Spectacular capture. The shadows in the tallest pine tree looks a little stretched (like you tried to pull too much detail from it) Why not absolute black? I think it would look more natural. Anyways, really amazing capture. I love the contrast in the rocks and the colors in the sky. :toast: :toast:
