Canon EOS 7D
EF400mm f/5.6L USM

1/1000 sec
Manual
f/5.6
ISO 400
Handheld
Harris Neck NWR, Southeast Georgia
Raw, LR3, CS5, 65% of full frame

I normally don't expect to have photo ops with small birds, but this and one other female Red-Winged Blackbird were close to me for a bit when I was watching larger birds at Harris Neck.

Comments, opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Barbara ..I have been lagging behind on shoots and comments. I Like the detail in this one ..Dont know if this is close to full frame or cropped? If there is enough space around you should try out the perfect horizontal and the perfect vertical 2:3. Just to see what it would look like ...Like this one anyways ..

Nice one, Barbara. There doesn't seem to be many females protographed, and I don't know why because I think they are the prettier gender.

Very nice detail and background Barbara! I really like this one because of the RWB's pose and the grass. Thanks for sharing! :toast: :toast:

The large view looks great Barbara, sharp details. Lovely bird and setting/BG.
I wish the one blade of grass wasn't directly in front of the bird, but that's nature.
Well done. :wavey:

I think this is the best photo you have posted to date. Very nice colors, good lighting, a wonderful pose and solid habitat. Of course it would be best if the one blade of vegetation wasn't encroaching on the breast of this bird but that's a minor nit
