The Admiral's Demise

I spotted this hapless Red Admiral on his sinking ship, the crab spider pirate has got the best of em'
Shot in full shade, under the low-hanging branches of an oak tree.
Just after I set up and got 6 or 7 clicks, the engorged spider unceremoniously let its victim drop to the litter below..
F/20, 1/80th, ISO 500, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 + Kenko 1.4x ext & fill.

Tried out a new Manfrotto 410 geared head & Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 tripod for macro work, really like it for it's precise control. I highly recommend this head.

Thanx for lookin' & have a great weekend :wavey:

Howard, your on a roll with these BF images. This is an excellent action shot, with plenty of drama, and I like your narration of the actors and the story. One thinks that butterflies have a carefree life just flittering from beautiful flower to flower, but there danger lurking everywhere.

Great capture, Howard- The versus of this species is very tough to depict and you've done an excellent job on this one- An excellent composition as well- Great idea to get a 410 Manfrotto geared head: I use the same model from last year as well and it is permanently fixed to my tripod- Have a nice week end, Fabio

Howard, quite incredible to get this. I wonder if you have any that shows more of the spider. All the butterfly detail is fantastic as it is.
