We found this beautiful creature in a small tropical forest creek while doing field research in French Guyana. This 1.5m caiman dove under giant ficus tree roots and emerged right bellow me perching on one of them. At first, I didn't think much of these pictures, but then I was captivated by the abstract quality of the scene. Prominent head relief of the animal seems to reflect on the surrounding forest elements, or the other way around. I wasn't sure anymore..

Looking forward to you comments!

Andrius, for me this photo is too busy, too much reflection. But, it's just my take on it. I suggest darkening some of the reflections if possible, to give more focus on the caimans head. It is the very bright reflection in the LRC that I find distracting. It must have been exciting to have the caiman pop up right below you! Doubt if I would have got a shot at all! Thanks for sharing, hope you have more images from this region to share with us.

Very abstract indeed Andrius. I quite like this and it grabs my attention, makes my eyes really wander across the image with its interesting textures, shapes, curves and play of light. The only part that I find a bit distracting is the bright patch in the RBC. Well seen. :toast:

Thanks you for your comments. I'll try tuning down those highlights in the water, maybe that will bring out the creature a little more.
