Middle Prong

Here is a shot from the middle prong of the Little River in GSMNP. I was day hiking with my camera and tripod. I had a difficult time handling the dappled light. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Nice little scene. I like the composition. I see what you mean with dappled light. The water has a few blown out areas. This might work well as a black and white.

Walt,

Considering the potential downside and harshness of that dappled light, I think you handled and tamed it pretty well. At least avoiding any prominent areas with blown highlights. On the other hand, because of that dappled light, much of the background area especially at the very top, isn't adding much to the scene. For me, this one is all about the cascade(s) right in front here. I really like how the greens are being picked up in the water too. I might even be tempted to play around with cropping the top just to bring more emphasis to the cascades. Also, just noticed this, but it appears that you might have tried some shadow recovery in the "splashy" areas? Some of the areas around the splashing water have a bit of a purpl-ish cast to them. Minor point, but wanted to point out the observation.

Walt, I like the image. Too bad you didn't get a cloudy day to nail this great multi level waterfall. You did well with what you had.

You are correct about the purple areas Lon. That is from a shadow recovery effort that I masked and got that effect on the edge of the water. I can get that fixed. Thanks.
