Monument Rocks - Fog

A recent trip to Monument Rocks NNL in western Kansas produced conditions I have never witnessed there before: Fog. Fog rolled in in the early hours of the morning, but burned off quickly after sunrise. I took this photo shortly before sunrise, using the on camera flash to add some light to the yucca plant. 7D, ISO 200, f/8, 1 sec, small crop. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

The fog makes for great mystery with the rocks looming in the distance. Well done.

Oh yeah, adding the flash was a stroke of genius! Just enough to showcase the vegetation without spoiling the mystery of the rocks appearing behind them.

Excellent foreground subject, Rob. One thing is weird though. Usually such a low contrast background might emphasize the dominance of the foreground but here the brightness and flatness of the hills make them visually quite strong for me. The blades of the grass pointing to them makes my eyes go up and down more than I want to. I hope this makes sense.

I really like this one, Rob. Using the flash was a great idea. I love the contrast between the FG vegetation and the murky BG. Great composition as well. Looks like you had some nice wildflower action as well - everything came together very well for this shot!

Neat, Rob! You need to get a ride on the space shuttle so you can get a shot of the rocks from orbit...

Very nice. I would never have thought to use flash but I'm glad you did. Wonderful colors in the fg vegetation and deep, moody bg make this unusual and beautiful.

Different and very neat. This almost feels coastal.
