This may be a bit of a curve, but lets see how it flies. I figure the posters to this gallery wil appreciate the find.

Walking along a rare bit of undeveloped bay beach a couple of weeks ago, I happened to notice these large amounts of washed up sea lettuce drying and baking in the sun. I didn't pay much mind at first until I took a closer look at the stuff. The texture was really interesting and, having my pocket camera with me, I started shooting to see what I might do with it. The result is a series of images I call 'Organic films'.

I would be very interested in your feedback.

Thanks in advance.

Interesting study in light and texture, Jim. Your processing really brought out the lines, patterns, and textures, of which there are plenty to study. The sea lettuce also has a nice diagonal flow which provides a sense of movement. I'll be interested to read other comments.

I've had to sit and look at this for a while to try to gel what it is that makes this so captivating. I think it's all the different things that you've brought together with the processing, the darker tones and the lightness of the dried out lettuce and the interplay of the lines and textures at the same time subtle and at the edges and very bold in the center. It's a thoughtful abstract for me. Looking forward to seeing some more.

great - just down my street - love the tones, textures and flow here. would like to see the whole series (shouldn't NPN have a gallery for such series and projects - just a thought?)

Thanks for the comments. The reaction is just what I was hoping for when I saw the potential within the unusual subject.

Hali Sowle - I have exactly the same reaction. The small image size here doesn't permit for detailed examination, but the full res image has an enormous amount of detail and you can stare and study the shapes, tones and textures across the entire frame very deeply. I reminds me of certain electron microscope images from years ago. Can't wait to run a full size print:

My new Epson 7900 printer just arrived about 10 minutes ago! :jump:
