Olympus E-5, 300mm x 2.0TC, prone in the eelgrass
f20, 1/200, ISO1600

Hartney Bay, Cordova Shorebird Festival, high tide. This is about as close as the f2.8 300mm will focus. As you'd expect, the depth of field is pretty limited. It's also the closest Ive been to a sandpiper, less than 2 meters.

The square crop isn't ideal, but a result of laying the eelgrass. Adjustments to levels; usual sharpening drill.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Very nice to be so close. Nice detail. Enough DOF to do the job here IMO.

I actually like this crop for this image. I really like the intimacy of the image, and also the colors and light.

I like the close eye pose and the square crop works for me. Feels very intimate the way you have presented it. Seems to need just a bit more contrast and possibly bring up the whites a few clicks. Well done.

A very different look at this species it being so close. I do wish for a bit more light overall.
