Dunlin at Close Range
by Bill Leggett
The tides in Gulfport are not in my favor this weekend (lows late evening instead of morning when the wind is more manageable), but I decided to go out this afternoon and try my luck in the afternoon breeze. Fortunately there were a decent number of Dunlins foraging around the Gulfport small craft harbor where I normally shoot. There was a slope to the shore, so I sat down in the wet sand with the tripod legs spread out. They often were coming in pretty close, so I was constantly changing between the EC-14 and the EC-20. This one might have been better with the 1.4, but since they were doing their usual thing moving around quickly hammering into the sand, I decided that I liked this one. The shot is full frame, admittedly a bit tight, but I thought the comp worked pretty well. Larger image provided.
