Circle of Wind

Taken June of 2011 over the Kansas Plains as a squall line move rapidly overhead. I did not dally long after the photo. Large raindrops began pelting me about 2 minutes after the photo.
Nikon D700, not sure about the metadata since I sometimes forget to change the setting for my old manual lenses.
Nikkor f/1.4 at 1.2?
ISO not recorded
1/80 sec.
I may not have included the appropriate photo for the larger version. May not be necessary. If asked, I'll try to update by deleting and re-posting. Otherwise, is as is.

Larry, you have captured well a scene I remember from growing up in Kansas. Well done, thanks for sharing.

Great storm photo, Larry. I like the contrast of the nice light green with the dark, threatening sky. Boy, if I was in an area prone to tornadoes as this area is, I sure don't think I'd dally long either after seeing that sky! Like your thirds placement, giving the sky 2/3 of the picture and the emphasis it deserves.

I actually like your "larger photo" better. It doesn't seem to be any larger than the first photo but the processing seems different. The upper right corner seems a little blown out on the first photo but not in the "larger photo". At least on my monitor. . .

I concur with Carolyn about the 'larger' version. I like the way the grass seems to glow below the storm cloud.

I agree also about the great light in the "larger" version. Good job of capturing this.

The sweeping curve of the cloud line is nice and takes my eyes to the opening atop the far hill. The green sky behind the line would have me worried about hail.

I can feel the power of a storm coming across the open prairie. I can feel the heavy air, the dampness and the wind picking up.

Prairie storms are so much fun to watch roll in (and then run for cover). You've captured a wonderful squall line and it contrasts nicely with the fresh green grass in the foreground.

Hi Larry :wavey: Love the light in this scene !!!!!! The larger version does a better job of showing the impending storm.'...... The ominous dark clouds against the vivid green fields makesfor a great contrast

Nice. Prairie storms are so interesting to watch, as long as one can be confident that they won't turn into something more than a storm. I also prefer the "larger" version.

That is a nicely balanced image. The clouds are beautiful and I have never seen anything exactly like that. A telephoto version of it would be nice. This looks good if I scroll the blown-out area into the top of my monitor. This could be darkened a hair to look even more ominous.

Very impressive sky and this is not something we see around here. If a sky like this ever appeared over Southern California, I think there would be panic and mass hysteria.
