Granite boulders rise above the frozen surface of Meddybemps lake in Downeast Maine. The ice was just thick enough to walk on and still fairly pristine (in January). There was a thick sheet of clouds covering the sky so the original photo was very flat, so I used some extreme HDR toning to make it more dramatic. Canon 5DII, EF17-40@17mm, 1/20s f16, ISO 100.

I like this, Bill. The lines are unique and the colors work throughout for me.

Really like the dynamics of the ice cracks adding energy to the image, also how you handled the colors on the rocks. A very singular scene

Very interesting natural phenomenon and capture Bill. I can't say that I can relate to the extreme HDR toning in the image, but the result is at least interesting.

I like the comp. I might try cropping about half the sky out from the top. It seems like it might bring the attention even more on the rocks and cracks in the ice.

I think the HDR toning really transformed the image, nice work Bill.
I especially like the added interest of the numerous ice cracks throughout the FG.
Well done! :toast:

I like the crack lines on the ice bringing my eye into the rocks and the blue cold color of the image.
