Marsh Wren 2

Here is another pose of the same wren I posted recently. In this one I gave it a tighter crop and (I think) was able to reduce the noise to an acceptable level. I would appreciate feedback on that. Also, is it oversharpened?

Wonderful, Jim. You really had a great session with this guy. It doesn't look oversharpened to me, though I think I'm seeing a touch of noise in the breast, which seems odd for your shooting parameters.

Looks great to me, Jim. Great pose with it singing or calling and with jaunty attitude of the tail. Nice crop/comp, too.

Cool singing pose Jim. It does seem a little noisy to me too, in the shadow areas. But it's still a fine keeper, Sweet Photo!!!

Such a great setting and singing pose. The image is screaming for some fill flash IMO.

i like the composition and I have to agree with Alan about the fill-flash. What's annoying me is the not sharpened parts of the stick where the Wren stands; I mean only the central part is as sharp as the birds, while the ends of it are blurred. I do see some noise in the breast especially in the larger version.
Cheers, Luca

Very nice to me too Jim, a great pose complete with jaunty tail, nice composition. It's a bit noisy in the shadows but not distractingly so.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I was so concerned about noise in the background, I neglected the shadow parts of the bird, where noise is visible. I also agree about the fill flash - would have been a big help. And yes, the perch stick. I am just getting started with selective sharpening. Guess I should have sharpened (and not applied a lot of noise reduction) on the entire stick. But I am getting there, thanks to all of you!

Nice one Jim - like the detail and calling pose. Reeds in the background add depth
