Taken in the bird sanctuary area at the Sugar Grove Nature Center, there are feeders in the area, which draw a large number of birds of various species. This female cardinal was perched in the bushes watching the activity. My guess is she was waiting for a turn.

I agree that the female Northern Cardinal is underrated; they are beautiful birds. There seems to be a distincly orangish cast to the photo; the reddish washes are off just a bit; easily corrected. The mix of branches and twigs, including the one behind the bill and the OOF one across the tail, are distractions, but I don't know what you could have done about them. The techs are good, and I think it would be a good color palette, but for the orange cast.

Nice pose and exposure, John. I do wish the branch crossing her beak weren't quite so obvious.

Jim, I worked on the color cast, and a slightly different crop. Thanks for your suggestions.
