I've been working with red squirrel for many months and I thought it was time to try another approuch. Not easy and frustrating at times but today was my lucky day:)

iso 1600 1/1000 sec. f/6.3 full frame

Nice catch, Edwin. With that short DoF it's obviously quite difficult to get the head in focus like this. I like how the colors of the squirrel fade into the soft background, as though it's actually emerged from an orange/brown haze.

Nice action shot! Very lucky timing. I like the sense of motion that the small DOF gives one.

Superb Ed, is this whilst in the hide, or the camera trap? You have some cracking images either way. :toast: :toast: :toast:

What a great action shot, Edwin. The soft background works very well here. Good luck with your further attempts and knowing you, there certainly will be.

Thanks all :wavey:

No camera trap was used. High iso and fast AF does the job. Keeping ratio is around 1/100. Very frustrating at times but on the other side, very rewarding.

best wishes,

Edwin

Wow. That is one sweet squirrel shot! I might wish for just a bit more DOF to set some context but obviously capturing the action is key here leaving you without much flexibility for aperture. Really well done and a unique image. :toast:

The only way to improve this, IMO, would be to train him to wear a cape! Nice work.

Tower tower, red squirrel's approaching ... I can't decide if it is lending or levitating. I'm wandering if keep the ground visible could complete the picture (whatever it was). Anyway, excellent.

Cheers, Luca

Edwin, this one made me smile really big! First of all, I can't imagine how many days in the field it took to get this angle, but then to pull it off is awesome. Congrats!

Thank you so much, everyone!! Yes, it has been hard work but that's part of the game, isn't it? If you want something really really badly, you have to work for it. I think this link will speak for it self:)
