This is a different pair of kites than the ones that had their nest destroyed by a bad storm a week ago.
I thought this was kind of unique for a food exchange. To me it looks like the female is simply saying to her mate, "this whole food exchange thing is just too much work for me, could you please just drop it and I'll do my best to catch it?" Not really, but that's the way it looks to me. In the shot sequence she actually over shot the vole and is falling away during a food exchange and this is the wing position that I caught her in. I like it and am wondering if you guys like it too. After getting hundreds of food exchange images it's neat to find something just a little bit different. Larger image provided. Heavily cropped but LOVING my new D4's ability to heavily crop files.

A great shot with a great exposure. Looks like you are needing all the focal length you can get for these birds. This looks really nice give the 600 + 1.4x TC.

Wow.. Another dramatic kite shot. You guys are killing me with these. My only wish is I would have been there to witness it, let alone capture it with a camera. Thanks for letting us see these images. They have been great :toast:

Wow-great detail in such a large crop David. I like the eye contact shown on both birds and the detail underwing, especially on the female. Quite amazing for the apparent distance this image was captured.

Gorgepus - and a 79% crop?? Wow, killer camera.
Nice angle here, perfect dof, and no aopparent noise at all.
Another exceptional image!

Great caption, looks like the wing is indeed an outstretched hand. Beautiful image quality and exposure. Lucky guy to be the owner of that D4 bad boy.

An excellent capture in very tough light. 79% crop? Wish I had all those pixels. I've really enjoyed your kite shots, David.

David - your recent kite images have been outstanding...really top-shelf stuff. This one is no different. A great natural history moment perfectly captured. I love the interaction here...it makes for a wonderful story-telling image. I can't even wrap my brain around the quality given your specs on the crop and equipment. Wow. But it ain't the gear that is creating such consistently powerful images!
