Blue-necked Tanager

Here's another shot from one of my Ecuador tours last winter. We were shooting at the Mirador in Los Bancos, Ecuador which is a good spot for hummingbird photography with great views. It also has fruit feeders but unfortunately they are behind the windows in the restaurant. But when this fellow and a few other beauties showed up, we couldn't resist setting up the tripods and shooting through the window. This is cropped to about 75% of FF.

I would have never guessed you shot this through a window Nate. Very impressive, nice detail and with no glare that I can see and at 1/20th of a second. Awesome bird and portrait!!! Have fun down south:biggrin:

I wouldn't have known this was shot behind glass Nate, the details, colour and sharpness are excellent. I'm very envious of the range of birds you see and photograph but I really enjoy seeing them. graham

The colors and the cool green background really make this for me. Beautiful shot.

The Tanagers in Ecuador are stunning and this one is no exception. Well done getting this! I assume some tables had to be moved.

Nate,
I can't believe that is through the window. No distortion or lack of detail. That is one colorful bird on a neat perch. You did really well to get this exposed for both the bright blues as well as the blacks. Nice job Nate.

Never would have guessed this was 'the old shot thru the window trick' Nate. The IQ is excellent, the perch offers a natural habitat, and the bird's coloring is very vibrant. :toast:

I really like the effect from shooting thru the window. It works here and the colors still stand out nicely
