Primordial

Ocean Point, Boothbay, Maine pre-dawn.

I don't know if I have ever posted this image here before but it was one that was purchased for a scientific journal article about early life forms. So since then, I call it "Primordial". BTW - The sun is to the extreme far left so thus the gradation of light in the sky from left to right. Not technically perfect by any means but it did convey a message someone wanted.

This was taken with a Canon 40D and Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens.
ISO100 1/6sec f/16
SR 2-Stop Reverse Graduated Filter

Thanks for having a look. Appreciate your comments and critiques.

I do need a vacation to get some new images.

Well, the title fits and I like all the textures in the rocks. I also like transitions in light so it works for me. Maybe not following all of the "rules" but you made the sale! :toast:

I like the scene and the light, Eva. Could maybe see warming up the blues in the rocks to match better with the warmth in the sky.

I quite like the emergence of the light from the left of frame. The color combo is engaging with the orange/purple of the sky and the blue/yellow of the water and land.

Lovely scene, the foreground is great and I really like the color graduation across the sky. The last 10-15% on the right feels very dark and heavy, especially in the sky. For me that detracts from the warmth on the left and the great highlight on the right center rocks.

Love that light gently bathing the foreground rock and seaweed, Eva, and the pools catching the blues from the sky. The color gradation in the sky is beautiful. Great title; can easily see why the journal used this.

I'm a big proponent of half-light, and they light always looks like this before dawn breaks or right after sunset. So, if you point a camera north or south, you are sure to get these gradations. It is a natural occurence even to the eye.
Nice comp, color, and light throughout. Well done, Eva.
