Sandstone vs. Sea

Last weekend my wife and I made it out to the Oregon Coast and drove the Three Capes Scenic Loop. It was a beautiful day out at the coast with warm temps and no wind. This was one of my favorite images from the Cape Kiwanda area.

My goal with this image was to capture the never ending battle between the sandstone and the sea. The sea was actually very calm, which made this even more challenging!

Nikon D7000, 10-24 dx at 10mm, polarizer, 4 stop ND filter
3 sec at f/16, ISO 100

Processed using LR 4.1 release candidate and CS6 beta. Both of these applications are incredibly powerful for photographers.

Thanks for any feedback you have. Please view larger version.

You really achieved your goal here, Scott. That does look like a constant battle and this really shows that. A wonderful image besides that as well. I really like how the dark clouds across the top help set this off. The large version is a must look imo! Very nice.

A very artistic take on this place, Scott. I like the drama in the sky and the colors are great. And, your comp brings all of it together.

This has a bit of artistic abstraction in the light and composition of the elements. I really like it.

This image has a stormy feel to it. You did a great job for a calm day to create the stormy feel.

The green and yellow color combo is very pleasing here Scott. Nice stormy light and balanced comp. Large version is great.

Your image has great impact on me, Scott. I especially appreciate the contrasting colors, shapes and textures. Perfect choice of shutter speed and excellent processing in my opinion.

Scott - Lots of great sand detail in the large version. I think the sea is winning the battle, always does it seems. It is hard to feel the motion of the water on this kind of day, difficult for me to see the motion in the surf that you have captured. The sky at the center of the horizon looks a little blown out, though it may just be the small versions. I guess my suggestion might be to darken the sky, especially the central portion and boost sat. a little.

Mission accomplished! Dynamic shot for such calm conditions, so, masterfully created image. Has painterly qualities, too, esp. in the sky.

Great image! I like the drama, comp, colors (very natural looking), etc. The dark clouds overhead add the finishing touch...
