Hunting for breakfast

This juvenile Gabar Goshawk was a real menace to all the small birds are a waterhole in the Kgalagadi. It was constantly harassing them to fly so that it could pounce and get an early breakfast. Here is was giving a quick fly-by after an unsuccessful attempt. I was hoping for a kill, but it was not to be.
I like the eye contact and the sharpness of the image. I was shooting from may car and handholding the 5 00mm.

Great light on this beautiful raptor. Tack-sharp head and body, and nice eye - I'm not sure why the wings are still blurred at 1/2500th - that should have been enough to get them sharp also. Guess you needed still more SS.
Very fine image!

Nice image Neal. I lie the fact some motion blur are in the wings. It shows this bird must have a fast wing beat and makes me feel like he was hovering.
