The Potholes

I made my first trip to Fall Creek Gorge Nature Preserve in Western Indiana over the weekend. Conditions weren't prefect as we had sunshine and bluebird skies, but there was a short period of time when the light was shootable.

This preserve is also referred to as "The Potholes". It's hard to tell from this shot, but that pothole in the foreground is about waist deep, and the one inches behind me was about chest deep.

Really neat area that I'll definately be re-visiting.

Pentax K-7; 1.6 sec, f/14.0, ISO-200, CPL

Thanks for looking, C&C appreciated.
Derek

Real pretty scene. Fine little cascade, whirlpool and fine complimentary greens to offset the earth tones. Well done.

NIce perspective, well arranged pools. I like how you treated little cascades and whirls. Greens are also aligned very well against the rocks. Like the scene.

The larger version really pops.
A good sense of depth in the larger version.
This photo presents many elements: DOF, color, lines, curves, texture.
Good work.

Very interesting location. I like your composition. Looks like this place is not too far from Cincinnati so I will give it a visit someday.

Very nice shot of all the cascades and potholes. Everything here looks great to me. I can't recall seeing a picture of this location before, but when I saw the thumbnail it reminded me of the entrance to the Subway in Zion. Different, certainly, but quite similar in some ways too.

What a neat place Derek, and a very nice image. I really like the carved out potholes and the series of small waterfalls. The green moss and leaves add a nice touch here too. This kind of reminds me of the carved out rocks in the Presque Isle River at the Porcupine Mountains in Upper MI. Nice work Derek! :toast:

A very appealing composition for me, Derek. The elements of your image lead me nicely through the image. Perfect choice of shutter speed to me eye, you keep just enough details of the cascades.

A couple of spots on the walls look a little hot and I think the rocks could handle a bit more selective contrast, but I am really loving this shot Derek. I have never seen an image from this place and it looks incredible.

Great composition. Nice distance perspective with the potholes. I like the slight softening of the small cascades, and the glowing green of the moss really adds to the impact of the image. Very good detail on the rock surfaces and moss. Beautiful capture Derek!
