Bond Falls in B/W +

This is an image I made from my last trip to Bond Falls in Upper MI. I always wanted to make a picture there that would work well in black and white. I thought this was the best of what I have shot there for what I had in mind, at least so far. There seems to be an endless amount of comps you can come up with there but I did enjoy this one quite a bit. Thanks for taking a look...and thanks much for all of your comments on my last post.

I'd say you succeded in your task, Nick. This scene was crying out for a B&W rendition IMO. I really like the tones and your choice of SS. My only suggestion would be to brighten the whites just a bit. Anyway; an awesome image. :toast:

I think this works very well in b & w. Nice light/luster on the reflected surface. I think the limited dof is a good idea too. IMO I think the oof/blurred water in the extreme foreground should be even more blurred. I know it would take manipulation to do that, and maybe you don't want to do that. maybe try it and see? A little softer and dreamy I think would have good effect here. It's nice anyway, just my 2cents!

Works very well. I really like the whale tail shape (although I'm partial I have a similar image for the eastern sierras, but I like yours a little better.)

Thank you Todd!
Here is a repost with a little adjusting thinking about what Ed and Chris had in mind. Not sure how I did, but I think I like it better... Nick

Nick: Well done. I agree with the others that the second post has more pop. But then again this is a cheap work monitor. Good choice for a B&W image too. :toast:

Yeah, I think you got it! The only reason I suggested what I did is, I think an oof foreground like you have needs to really look deliberately done. Not that it didn't before, but just more so now, I think. Does that make any sense?

Beautiful Nick! The reflections on the water are wonderful, and I really like your choice of shutter speed for this.
I think you did a pretty darn good job of finding a great black and white scene!

this is beautiful, Nick... I like how the 3 areas of water look so quite different from one another... I gather the scale of this is quite small?

Getting an interesting comp of a small section of moving water is very challenging. You've done a fine job here and it looks great in b&w. I really like how the blurred water keeps my eyes in the frame and focuses attention on the upper step.

Derek, Karsten and Mark, Thanks!
Karsten, Yes, this is just a small part of a much wider falls. Then there is a much bigger falls just below these as well, and that might be a future post from me too. Nick

Hey Ed, Thanks! I appreciate your suggestion to help it along. That is what is so nice about NPN. When I was thinking it looked pretty good I just needed a little more push in the right direction. What it needed just wasn't coming to me on my own. Thanks, Nick

I really like this in black and white. It has almost a chrome look to it. I especially like the dark tones at the top of the water and the detail in that. Nicely done!

Nice, very nice black and white of the cascades, after numerous color reproductions. Especially reflecting surfaces of the water, I almost wish they were more neatly framed by darks. Very well done.

Nick, thought I'd already commented on this. Nice use of shutter speed. The B&W looks good and simplifies this. Another option maybe is to crop just a bit off the RHS just to eliminate most of the OOF lighter part. Nice work!
