I recently spent a few days in the Wichita Mountains NWR near Lawton, OK. The wildflower display there is quite unusual this year because of several factors. A huge range fire that blackened thousands of acres broke out last summer in the midst of a terrible drought. This produced a clean canvas. Rains this winter and an early spring have compressed the season so that flowers that bloom in April and May are all blooming at once.
