The spring flowers are starting to bloom. Taken at Cedar Canyon. This year we are not going to have the masses of flowers we had last year. By the 1st of June last year we were 9" above normal for moisture, in the month of March this year we had 0" of moisture. It is very dry. All comments and critiques are welcome and appreciated.

Canon 40D
Sigma 70-300
All settings on manual
Shutter 1/1000
Aperture f8
ISO 250
300mm
Tripod
Slight color correction in PSE9

I like how your background is blurred, and good focus on the front of the flower! The lighting is a little bit harsh...perhaps a diffuser panel could have helped a little bit. Also I am wondering if the white balance is off a little bit but I am not sure what to do about that...maybe it is slightly too red?
Pretty little flower!

A pretty flower, Richard. Unless the wind was blowing (hence the f/8, 1/1000), you could have gotten a great more dof, since you were on a tripod.

Nice color, comp, and BG. And, I think I'm seeing a dust speck just to the right of the top of the flower.

Nice capture of beautiful flower. I like this image but I'm not quite sure about the tight vertical format. You shoud try allowing more space on the side.

Beautiful flower portrait, Richard! I love the color of the BG, it suits very well with the color of the flower. :toast:

I like this portrait Richard, the BG and BG control make this for me. I also see what appears to be a dust orb just to the right of the bloom, but that is easy to handle. Well done in my opinion.

Lovely job of capturing the flower against the oof background. The details in the flower are really nice. I also see the dust spec, but as said by others that's an easy fix.

Wonderfully captured Richard, love the colour and detail , I think Eirini had a great tip about using a diffuser to help tone down the lighting just a tad. :wavey:

Hi Richard :wavey: Well composed with a good background  I think Eirini 's suggestion about a diffuser should make these delightful colors even better
